Tuesday, June 22, 2004 ::: home again the madness is finally over you guessed it - it's another round of (quite) serious post-vacation blues it's always been the same: you anticipate and then the tension sets in before you depart since you never find enough time and enough energy to get fully prepared for a trip - but you board the plane anyway over the clouds 7000 miles away the flight ended - like a breeze after 2 meals and some sleep plus a stupid movie but you never want to leave the air. "united welcomes you to san diego" back to the ground, you embark on a new journey - seeing new places meeting new people sometimes with a hint of indifference, you get unhappy with this world but sometimes a ray of light is enough to tell you the experience itself is so great that it's simply one that's out of this world the magic of flight is still there and I'm lovin' United even more they don't provide exceptional service, and it's not like I'm trying to exaggerate how great United is because frankly it isn't and not that I have a special liking for air stewardess reaching their 50s - but it's the american hospitality that makes you feel at home they don't impress you like the Japs, but sometimes, somehow you can feel it's service straight from the heart - we aren't all that nice, but this world doesn't need people to be 100% nice all of the time either. and it's on UNITED flight that makes the 15 hour ORD to HKG flight seat 41B (not window, not aisle either... I was trapped in this seat B between 2 nice gawilos) still enjoyable. By the way, Economy Plus is nice, it gives you all the legroom to stretch your legs, a nice treat for an ultra long flight like that. (but a flight can never be long enough for me though) San Diego - one of my favorite cities now. The perfect place to reside in - you've got the perfect weather, sunshine with a constant cool breeze, it's right beside the pacific so you get an endless shore line that stretches from North to South giving you some nice beaches. Dinner at the 'Marine Room' was simply an experience that i could never forget - savor the best seafood beside the shore where you see the waves splashin on the soft white sand at night. you see sea gulls having their 'seafood' meals too while you drift away in this beautiful scene with a live band playing soft jazz... if that's not the perfect place for dining where else could it be? A stroll around the university, that's the beauty of simplicity with some style. The campus is not meant to be admired this way because everybody knows it's not the best Stateside, but something's telling me it's already a spectacular masterpiece. Oh well, it's always the ugly that makes the beautiful and even not-that-really-beautiful stands out. the re-live of a dream that's now too far, too far. It's then a hop to another interesting place on earth. Probably the happiest place on earth. Things just happened too fast. "united welcomes you to hong kong international airport." humid, wet, jet lagged and the resume of some boring internet-browsing - i can do without those. all i need now is some realization of what beauty 'normal life' has to offer - i don't want to be a hedonist all the time afterall. and the realization of what identity i truly want to poccess - a life in a world of my own or a life of my own in another world - am i being someone i'm not or am i wanting to become someone i'm not whether i'm bold enough whether i'm wise enough and what i ultimately want. questions that i can never answer unless i can live twice but there was a second or two on my flight back to Hong Kong that I thought perhaps I matured a bit. talk about the shock from this 'out of this world' experience it's great to be out of this world for some time because it gives you a chance to see things from a new perspective. and maybe what i wanted is still what i want. if i didn't gain any new perspective, maybe i'm just trying to prove what i saw was right. maybe i was right, right from the start. ::: posted by Wings at 6/22/2004 06:51:00 PM
